HAPPY with his side's opening three quarters but ultimately flat after the 38-point loss to Port Adelaide, coach Luke Beveridge is confident his Western Bulldogs can take it to anyone.

The Dogs were brave on Saturday night, hanging with the Power for most of the contest only to be undone by a six-goal-to-one final quarter.

Beveridge was proud of his playing group, but said the club's focus for the rest of the season had to be on bringing consistent performance across entire games.

Five talking points: Power v Dogs

"Unfortunately we weren't quite capable of pulling it off and Port Adelaide capitalized and blew it out," he said.

"[I'm] a bit empty because we just didn't feel like it should have been that sort of margin in the end.

"[Our aim] is just to be more consistent with the way we play, we know it holds up against some of the very best teams – it held up today for a vast portion of the game.

"It's achievable."

Beveridge also praised the efforts of tall forward Tom Boyd, who was subbed from Saturday night's game with just four possessions to his name.

On pure numbers, Boyd's output this year has been underwhelming given the hype on his move from Greater Western Sydney.

He's kicked just three goals from his last five games, but his coach said he had delivered on what had been asked of him.

"We just felt like we needed a little bit of run and wanted to go a little bit smaller up forward," he said. "That's going to happen at different times for Tom.

"He's been terrific for most to the year, he's given us a great contest and what we've asked of him.

"He occupies a big defender every week… the next step is just to front up in round 11 and give us that contest he's been giving us, and week after week he'll continue to get better."
