THE FIRE that broke out at Domain Stadium last Sunday caused an estimated $400-600,000 worth of damage but will not affect patrons attending the West Coast-Carlton clash on Friday night.

A fire broke out in a retail kitchen last Sunday about three hours before the round one clash between Fremantle and Port Adelaide.

The area was immediately evacuated and no one was injured in the incident. The match went ahead as scheduled with only a small section of the stadium, which included the John Worsfold room, cordoned off.

It is understood a deep fryer within one of the retail kitchens was the major source of the blaze but Domain Stadium general manager Gavin Taylor told AFL.com.au that investigators were still trying to determine what ignited the fryer.

Taylor praised stadium staff and fire and emergency crews for their swift response to the incident and their ability to limit the damage.

"Whilst the fire damage was contained to one retail outlet there was obviously a range of smoke damage," Taylor said.

"In terms of putting out the fire there was a whole range of water damage that occurred as well."

Some of the water damage affected the West Coast administration offices that are housed in that section of the stadium but it only caused a minor disruption this week.

Taylor said the stadium would be up and running as per normal on Friday night with just the one food retail outlet out of action.

Stadium staff have worked all week to ensure the John Worsfold room will also be available for normal use.

Taylor expects fans will not encounter any issues attending the game on Friday night or in coming weeks.
