ADELAIDE is riding Greater Western Sydney's worst start to a season since 2014 more than any other club with the Crows holding the Giants' first pick in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

In a year the Crows appear destined to claim their first wooden spoon in their 29-year history, Matthew Nicks' side could be left with two top-five picks should the Giants continue to struggle.

The Crows struck a two-for-one deal with GWS last year, sending pick four to the Giants in exchange for pick six and their 2020 first-round selection.

While the Giants currently sit 13th on the AFL ladder (sixth last), their pick (now in the Crows' possession) would move up to five should the ladder remain the same due to a little known clause.

Fremantle enters this year's draft with a 265 draft-point deficit that needs to be made up in the first-round after they went into the red last year to secure Hayden Young, Caleb Serong and Academy prospect Liam Henry in the first round.

Should the Dockers finish in their current 15th position, their pick four would slide back to six based on the AFL Draft Value Index (see below), and the clubs holding picks five and six would move up the board.

"We also have a deficit on that 2020 first round pick which will mean it will slide back. As to how far, that depends on where we finish next year," Dockers head of football Peter Bell told the club's website last November.

"For example, a No.1 pick would slide to pick two, while a pick 18 would slide to pick 26."

Should free agent Brad Crouch leave on a lucrative contract and land the Crows a first-round compensation pick, it would fall immediately after their first pick which would be No.2 if they finish last.

It would give Adelaide three picks inside the first round, and potentially - depending on where GWS finish - three inside the top 10.

The Crows will be tracking this year's draft crop closely, which includes exciting South Australian tall Riley Thilthorpe as a likely top-five selection.

Another factor to consider will be when a bid comes on Western Bulldogs Next Generation Academy star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, with the Dogs all but certain to match.

A bid on the tall forward is expected to come in the first handful of picks.

Elsewhere, Geelong will be watching West Coast's surge up the ladder, while North Melbourne's yet-to-be scheduled date with Melbourne will carry further weight with the Roos holding the Demons' first pick.

Ten picks have also changed hands for the second-round, as well as a host of others across later rounds.
