THE NERVOUS wait is over for Hawthorn forward Mark Williams, who will be available for a grand final appearance after evading suspension for an incident involving St Kilda’s Max Hudghton.
The AFL match review panel assessed Williams’ contact with Hudghton during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s preliminary final. The contact was deemed to have occurred with Hudghton’s back, not the neck or head, with the panel ruling the resultant free kick awarded on the night an appropriate penalty.
St Kilda’s Brendon Goddard was not so fortunate, and has been charged with striking Hawthorn captain Sam Mitchell during the fourth quarter of the same game. Goddard can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.
Hawk Jordan Lewis was also cleared of contact with David Armitage during the fourth quarter, while a second-quarter incident involving impact between Robert Campbell and Nick Riewoldt was reviewed but deemed non-reportable.
An incident between St Kilda’s Lenny Hayes and Hawthorn's Luke Hodge from the second quarter was assessed but cleared.
Western Bulldog Josh Hill’s negligent contact against Geelong’s Andrew Mackie during the third quarter of the first preliminary final on Friday will cost him a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.
