Gary Rohan’s great mark and goal in the third quarter, after a great Swans transition that started deep in defence, has been awarded the SwansTV Play of the Day for round 24.
The move started with Luke Parker picking up a loose ball following a towering spoil from Tadhg Kennelly. Parker released a classy handpass out to an open Ryan O’Keefe, who was able to advance the ball out of the defensive 50 with a bounce and spot-up pass to the presenting Jesse White.
As White was able to do for Jarrad McVeigh’s goal against St Kilda in round 22, he quickly fired out a handpass to the overlapping Shane Mumford. In a role belying his role as a lead ruckman, the fleet-footed Mumford dashed away and found Adam Goodes with a precision pass.
Goodes was presented with an open forward line after the quick transfer from defence, and he quickly floated a perfectly weighted pass in Rohan’s direction. With plenty of work still to do, Rohan was able to pull in a strong overhead mark under pressure from Brisbane’s Sam Sheldon and go back and convert the set shot from 20 metres out.
The goal was Rohan’s third of the evening, and saw him as one of four Swans players to kick three goals or more in the game - Goodes and Jude Bolton contributed four each, while Matt Spangher also finished with three.
Rohan’s second goal was also one of the highlights of the day, and can be re-lived in our weekly 'Handpicked Highlights' segment.
