IN CONTRAST to the way the competition worked in 2008, the venue for the 2009 NAB Cup grand final is unlikely to be determined by the team that scores the most aggregate points.

Adelaide hosted St Kilda at AAMI Stadium in the 2008 NAB Cup final due to their superior points scoring record, but AFL chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan said that scenario was unlikely to be repeated in 2009, with the major consideration behind the venue being maximising the viewing audience.

"We're of the view that we might look at a best fit policy to make sure that the most amount of people are going to be able see the game," McLachlan said on Thursday as the AFL released the full fixture for next year's pre-season competition.

The grand final venue will depend on a number of factors, including which teams are vying for the prize.

"We'll want the game to be played where it's the best fit and that'll depend on what teams are playing and where we think the best venue is to hold the grand final."
