1: Leave the man alone

TALK about kicking a man while he's down. Last week Leigh Matthews pulls the pin as Brisbane Lions coach, and now Gary Ablett takes his trophy off him. The youth of today have no respe ... eh? Oh.

Congratulations to Gary Ablett of the Geelong Football Club for winning the Leigh Matthews Trophy for AFLPA MVP ASAP. In the tradition of taking Charlie home after the Brownlow, little Gazza has now trotted off with Lethal under his arm and the former Hawthorn champion, Collingwood premiership coach, etc, etc, is now sitting happily on the mantelpiece overlooking that nice new couch Gary and Lauren bought.

And here at The Four Points we are touched at having been given the AFLPA's Leaping Larry Award for the 54th most popular Mildly Diverting Online Pseudo Satirical Column for 2008. We took Leapster home and he's now propping up one end of the TV stand where the leg fell off.

2: Black holes, son

THIS time of year there's more spin in footy than that Swiss Gravitron thing that's going to create a black hole and end the world on Wednesday afternoon. Today's prize goes to Magpies coach Mick Malthouse, who somehow kept a straight face while saying he didn't read anything into St Kilda's crushing loss against Geelong in the qualifying final.

"We are going to go into this game knowing that St Kilda is a better side than how they played on the weekend," Malthouse said while giving himself a Chinese burn to stop from chuckling. Mick is fully expecting to face the St Kilda that thrashed the Essendon U16s in round 22.

3: Cut and thrust

AND CONGRATULATIONS to the mighty Bombers for creating world record income for Melbourne surgeons by sending off fully half of their list for various nips, tucks, slices, chops, carves, dissections, spits and polishes.

Those few Essendon players who haven't had limbs replaced post-season will be offered free liposuction to get rid of their baby fat, while Bombers fans expect several players to have their heads removed from their arses.

4: Get down

SYDNEY Swans forward Amon Buchanan says the team is looking forward to getting back to the MCG this weekend. "We like playing at the MCG, the tradition," he said. "That's the home of football and it's really exciting to get down there and play."

Presuming he didn't mean 'get down' in the funky Kool & the Gang sense, we presume this is a cunningly disguised reference to wanting to play a match in front of a crowd where the pie-sellers don't outnumber the spectators.
