MELBOURNE is likely to trade Addam Maric to North Melbourne.

Demons list manager Tim Harrington said the club had held "fruitful" discussions with North about the 21-year-old, who has played 21 games and booted 15 goals since his AFL debut in 2008.

"Addam has indicated that he would like to go there," Harrington told Melbourne radio station SEN 1116 on Thursday morning.

"North are a good club to deal with, so I reckon we'll be able to do a deal there that satisfies us both."

Harrington wouldn't reveal what Melbourne was asking for in return for Maric, or what the Kangaroos had offered up in initial negotiations.

He also indicated later on AFL.com.au's Trade Week Radio that Melbourne would make a play for Micth Clark, who has sought a trade away from the Brsibane Lions.

One Demon who won't be moving is Matthew Bate, despite indicating a desire to find a new club.

"Matty Bate is in contract, so he really won't be going anywhere," Harrington said.

"With a new coach, there's a bit of a new look and a new feel about how we might play the game, and it really might suit him to a greater extent than the way we were playing previously."

And Harrington reported that interest in key defender Matthew Warnock had cooled in the opening days of trade week.

"There have been clubs that have shown interest for the last month or so," Harrington said.

"But now that we've sort of got to the pointy end, I suppose in the priority order of things, clubs try and go after their very, very main thing that they want to fulfil during Trade Week, and then on Monday things come with a mad rush."

No trades are official until paperwork has been accepted by the AFL and formally recognised after 2pm on Monday, October 17.
