A few weeks ago kangaroos.com.au reported ruckman Todd Goldstein was closing in on the record for most hit-outs in a home and away season.

With two matches remaining he continues to bridge the gap on all-time leader Gary Dempsey, and while the massive 878 compiled by the former Roo in 1982 might be a stretch, second place on the list is still up for grabs.

After 19 games Goldstein has amassed 679 hit-outs, at an average of almost 36 per game which currently has him in eighth spot.

To reach Dempsey's effort of 738 set in 1983, he requires a total of just 60 in the final matches against the Saints and Tigers - an achievable figure.

Goldstein leads the league in 2011 for total and average hit-outs and is equal with the Eagles' Dean Cox in clearances.

He's also registered career-highs in disposals, goals and tackles in 2011- not bad for a 23 year-old with only 56 matches to his name.
