The St Kilda Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Danny Sexton as Defensive Coach plus Sorrento Premiership Coach and former player Troy Schwarze as Specialist Coach (Midfield) for 2012.
Danny Sexton, St Kilda’s Opposition Line Coach for the past two years has become the Saints Defensive Coach as part of Scott Watters new coaching structure.
Sexton has a wealth of football experience both as a player and coach. He had seven years playing at Port Melbourne before going on to coach Diamond Valley, Calder Cannons U/16 and U/18 plus was Head Coach at the Northern Knights before joining St Kilda as a Development Coach in 2006.
“Danny is a very insightful coach and will play an important role in the coordination of our defensive strategies,” said Watters.
“He has a strong background in player development and is well respected by the playing group."
Sexton joins Adam Kingsley (Offensive Coach) and Dean Laidley (Midfield Coach) as one of St Kilda’s three Line Coaches in the AFL Program for the 2012 season, with a new Opposition Analyst to be appointed in the coming weeks.
Schwarze, 29, played 71 games for the Saints (1999-2006) and has enjoyed recent success as Senior Coach at the Sorrento Football Club (Victoria).
Since joining the Sharks in 2007, Schwarze has led Sorrento to three premierships and earned a fantastic reputation for forging outstanding community relations.
“Troy is a young, energetic and successful coach. He has a modern, holistic approach to coaching which complements our vision for the football department,” explained Watters.
Schwarze joins fellow former players Aaron Hamill (Offensive) and Max Hudghton (Defensive) in completing the newly created Specialist Coaching roles.
“Aaron, Max and Troy will play an important role in our restructured coaching team. Their knowledge and technical expertise will be invaluable to our Player List and provide additional mentoring for our younger players,” said Watters.
The three Specialist Coaches will work closely with the respective Line Coaches during the weekly training program and on match days.
