MIDFIELDER Jed Adcock, believes the Brisbane Lions have developed a more modern game style under new coach Michael Voss.

The 23-year-old says it is necessary to alter playing styles during a game nowadays, something the Lions did during a nine-goal blitz in the third quarter against West Coast in round one.

“It’s a much more adaptable game plan,” Adcock said.

“I think it’s more structured around the game styles of the era … With Leigh we still might have played – not old fashioned footy – but not playing the game styles like the Geelongs and Hawthorns were playing.”

Adcock is looking to recapture his stellar form of 2007 when he was named in the All-Australian squad and came runner-up to Jonathan Brown in the Lions best and fairest.

But the co vice-captain, who chipped in with 18 disposals against the Eagles, is not blaming heavy tagging for a quiet 2008 season.

“I probably just got a little bit complacent … I don’t know if I got tagged heavily, it was just more of a mind thing that you’ve got to get around”, said Adcock.

“Every player will go through that at some time in his career.

“It’s about going back to what you know that worked for you, and for me that’s probably just my competitiveness in a footy match; never give in.”
