SHAUN Ryan will umpire his fifth consecutive Grand Final this Saturday.

Ryan, who joined the AFL umpiring panel in 2003, umpired the 2008 and 2009 matches as well as last year's draw and replay.

He will be joined by Brett Rosebury, who will officiate in his fourth consecutive Grand Final. Chris Donlon will make his debut on football's biggest stage.

Rosebury was named the 2011 All Australian umpire and will take the first bounce on Saturday afternoon.

Donlon said he was thrilled to be named for his first Grand Final.

"Really excited. I'm rapt to be involved and to get an opportunity. I'm rapt to be involved with Brett and Shaun. We team really well," Donlon said.

"Any of the six umpires who umpired on the weekend could have done an equally good job."

Ryan said his advice for his colleague was to simply do as he has done all year.

"The good thing for us as umpires is nothing changes. Free kicks are the same. The tempo of the game might pick up," Ryan said.

"Chris has had a great year by doing the basics, being unobtrusive and paying the clear free kicks. That's all he needs to do on the weekend."

Matt Stevic has been named as emergency.

Goal umpire Chelsea Roffey will have to wait at least another year to become the first female to officiate in a Grand Final after she was named as an emergency to David Dixon and Luke Walker.

Dixon and Walker were both the bookends in last year's Grand Finals.

Umpires boss Jeff Gieschen said high-profile umpires Roffey and Ray Chamberlain were in contention but narrowly missed out.

"In Ray's case, he was part of the preliminary final panel and was down to the last six. He'd be disappointed to miss today, but the bottom line is he was ranked under these guys and his season wasn't quite as consistent as these guys. He would know that," Gieschen said.

"In terms of Chelsea, she has had another fantastic year. She was ranked three at the end of last year and sat on the bench. Ironically, she was ranked three again this year."

Mark Foster, Christopher Gordon, Mark Thomson and Nathan Doig will run the boundary, with Jonathon Creasey the emergency.
