Courageous young midfielder Craig Bird has been added to the team to take on Essendon at the SCG this Sunday afternoon.

Bird, 21, has not played a senior game this season, after he suffered a stress fracture in his foot in the pre-season.

Bird  felt discomfort in his foot after a pre-season game in February and scans revealed the injury which stopped him running for six weeks.

He approached his rehabilitation diligently and made his return to the Reserves last Saturday in Canberra, where he was one of the team’s best players in the draw against Ainslie.

Bird has played 36 games in two seasons for the Swans.

Ben McGlynn will make a much-awaited return to the field this weekend when he plays for the reserves.

Into the senior team this weekend comes Bird and Paul Bevan, in place of Matt O'Dwyer and Campbell Heath who will both play in the reserves.
