Champion full-forward Peter Hudson was elevated to the status of Hawthorn Football Club Legend at the Club’s Main Event function tonight.

Hudson joins Graham Arthur, John Kennedy Snr, Leigh Matthews and Michael Tuck in receiving the Club’s highest accolade.

Hudson began his distinguished career with Hawthorn Football Club in 1967 and kicked 727 goals at an average of 5.59 a game.

Widely considered one of the best full-forwards of all time, Hudson won the Coleman Medal four times in his career and in 1971 he equalled Bob Pratt’s record of 150 goals in a season after kicking three goals in Hawthorn’s winning Grand Final side.

As Chief Executive from 1995 to 1996, Hudson played a leading role in Hawthorn’s move to play home games in Launceston.

Renowned artist Dave Thomas completed a portrait painting of Hudson, which was auctioned off during the evening.

In other highlights, premiership player Gary Buckenara and former players and administrators J.W. Kennon and Bert Hyde were inducted into the Hall of Fame, taking the number of inductees to 28 since the Club’s Hall of Fame was established in 2003. Only five have been elevated to legend status.

The 2010 playing squad was presented with their official jumpers for the season and Alastair Clarkson and Sam Mitchell addressed the audience of over 500 on the season ahead.
