It was the Lions' sixth straight defeat to start the season and Voss said his team was bleeding.
"It was an important occasion for the club, we clearly didn't meet that.... They're gutted, absolutely gutted. The guys will hurt, as I will, for the next 48 hours, but we've got to move on," he said.
After a week of verbal jousting where experienced Lions Simon Black and captain Jonathan Brown criticised former teammates Jared Brennan and Michael Rischitelli for switching clubs, Voss said his men simply did not walk the walk.
"We did the talking but didn't do the walking," he said.
"Our first half we got beaten up pretty bad inside; contested footy was down badly and clearances we were getting smashed.
"Their mature bodies around the ball (did well, and) they were making the most of it. They got the jump and from there we were trying to wheel it back.
"A bit more effort in and around the ball would have been nice."
But Voss said it was not the time to start playing the blame game despite the team being anchored to the bottom of the table.
"We're all in it together and that's the way we're treating it," he said. "I back my players absolutely 100 percent.
"As a club there's been some genuine progress. It might not look like that from a scoreboard point of view, but certainly the way we're operating as a football club, (I) couldn't be happier with the way that's progressing.
"The big change process from us is gong to happen over a period of time, and from what I've seen I've seen, the club is very committed to that."
Voss paid credit to the Suns who were a completely different team to the one that was thrashed last week by Essendon.
"Their pressure was very good, they upped the pressure and when they came at us, we didn't think through it enough. The main thing was they got that contested footy. They've got some talent there and bind well together and it's definitely AFL standard," he said.
Voss said the Lions were struggling to mark the ball inside the forward 50 and that's why he tried Daniel Merrett up forward in the first half before switching to Ashley McGrath, who booted six goals, in the second.
