The squad of players (listed below) was ultimately selected following a testing and screening day run by AFL Queensland in conjunction with the Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy.
A number of factors were taken into consideration when determining the final squad, including (but not limited to): skill level, game sense/knowledge, fitness levels, attitude, work ethic and ability to follow instructions.
The players that missed out on selection in the squad are strongly encouraged to continue training hard over summer with their respective clubs.
The U18 program staff will continue to monitor the progress of those players outside of the training squad, with an eye to potentially include them at a later date should they consistently demonstrate the required characteristics and abilities during this time.
Among the 50 young players who form the development squad are some recognisable faces from Queensland side that won this year’s AFL National U16 Championships - including Queensland U16 Captain Isaac Conway and Noosa Tigers junior Cain Tickner.
