ADELAIDE games record holder Mark Ricciuto had been appointed as an All-Australian selector.

Ricciuto, who played 312 games for Adelaide between 1993 and 2007 and won the 2003 Brownlow Medal, replaces former teammate Mark Bickley. Bickley has accepted an assistant coaching role with the Crows.

Ricciuto joins Andrew Demetriou (chairman), Adrian Anderson, Rod Austin, Kevin Bartlett, Gerard Healy, Glen Jakovich and Robert Walls on the All-Australian selection panel.

The All-Australian selectors, along with Kevin Sheehan, also choose the NAB AFL Rising Star.

Anderson, the AFL football operations manager, said he was delighted Ricciuto had accepted the invitation to join the committee.

He said Ricciuto had a stellar career on the field, being selected All-Australian eight times between 1994 and 2005. He was captain twice.

"Mark was an imposing player in his time as the centre-piece of the Adelaide Crows, winning a Brownlow Medal (2003), three best and fairests (1998, 2003 and 2004) and captaining the club for his last seven seasons from 2001," Anderson said.

"He was a regular in All-Australian discussions, winning selection on eight separate occasions, and a key player in the Crows' second premiership, after injury cost him a spot in the 1997 line-up.

"His playing record stands up to any scrutiny and we are delighted to have him as an All-Australian selector."

Ricciuto said he was surprised and honoured with the approach and had no hesitation in accepting.

"It's a great privilege to be able to be involved in the discussion on the best players in our competition each year, and to continue to have a small role to play in our game," he said.
