BRISBANE Lions champion Luke Power said the embarrassment of a poor performance against Fremantle last week drove him to star in Sunday's 11-point win over Port Adelaide.

Against Freo he tallied a miserable eight disposals in a display described by former Collingwood captain Tony Shaw as one of the worst he'd seen in the Lion's glittering career.

Power knew it, and did what most champions do by responding with pure class against Port Adelaide.

He had 24 touches and kicked three goals, including the goal that put his side in front in the fourth quarter, to help the Lions home.

Power said erasing the Fremantle match with a good showing was crucial.

"You just want to contribute and I didn't do that last week," Power said.

"It's got to make you more determined. For the first day after the game you're in a world of hurt and I was embarrassed by my performance last week.

"The great Craig Lambert has always said to me, 'good players don't play two bad ones in a row' so he always said to let that inspire you."

The win capped a huge week for the triple premiership player, after he made a mid-week flight to Melbourne as president of the AFLPA to head the meeting on the upcoming collective bargaining agreement.

Power said the eight-day break between matches allowed him the time to travel and coach Michael Voss and the Brisbane Lions were fully supportive of the trip.

"It probably helped because sometimes footy can become all consuming and it was probably a good release, a high-pressure release, but a good release to take my mind off footy," he said.

Power, 31, has played 275 matches, been named an All Australian (2004), finished top-three five times in the club best and fairest, but still loves a goal as much as anyone.

In the second quarter on Sunday, Port Adelaide's Cameron O'Shea was penalised for a deliberate rushed behind.

With the free kick to be taken adjacent to the left hand behind post, Power rushed to the scene and duly kicked the checkside goal with his trusty left foot.

"I think I did the Jason Akermanis and ran past Jack Redden to get that one," Power joked.

"It was funny and I'm sure it'll come up on the review tape and I'll cop some heat for it. If I missed it, it might have been a different story."

Power said the win was great for the young Lions group, and showed if they continued to work hard, the wins would come.

"We're happy to win ugly," he said. "Sydney win ugly all the time and they're the most professional unit in AFL footy so that doesn't bother us. A win's a win."
