GEELONG midfielder Joel Corey says Collingwood beat the Cats by replicating their style of football.

The Magpies thrashed Geelong by 86 points on Friday night, thanks to hard running and harassing.

“They tackled very well. They tackled how we tackled last year. We need to get back to that and they started very well too,” Corey said.

“Eighty points is not great. They were very good Collingwood and we weren’t up to scratch. We didn’t play as a team,” Corey said.

Corey said the loss was a bit of a reality check for his team that had been undefeated for the season.

“Yes and no. The way we lost tonight was unacceptable,” he said.

“There’s areas we can work on and we’ve known that over the last eight rounds. We’ve got to start playing as a team more and you won’t see 80-point losses like tonight.”

The All-Australian said the test of a good team was if it could bounce back from a heavy loss, which was the aim for next week’s clash with Carlton.

“If you’re going to lose you have to learn from the experience and next week against the Blues we’ll see the real Geelong back,” he said.

“We do have confidence in ourselves. I don’t think we look that far ahead in games of football. We started to get a run on but credit to Collingwood, they squashed that and went further ahead.”
