The Sydney Swans have elevated rookie Kieren Jack to the senior list with Lewis Roberts-Thomson currently on the long term injury list.

Reserves & Development coach Brett Allison told sydneyswans.com.au Jack was extremely excited when he heard the news.

“Roosy and I told him and he was a very happy boy, I think his exact words were ‘that’s awesome’”,” Allison said on Wednesday afternoon.

Roos decided to elevate Jack given the Club’s current injury list.

Roberts-Thomson will be out the required minimum of eight weeks to be on the long term injury list (remains 3-4 weeks away from starting to train), Tadhg Kennelly is out 4-5 weeks following his knee injury last weekend and there are question marks over Luke Ablett and Amon Buchanan for this weekend.

Allison feels Jack has more than deserved his place on the senior list.

“Kieren has been a very good player in the reserves for the second half of last season up until now, and he showed all through the pre-season when he played in the senior team that he can be there,” Allison said of the midfielder who effectively tagged the Western Bulldogs’ Jason Akermanis in round one of the NAB Cup.

“He hates being beaten by his opponent and in his first three games in the reserves his form has certainly continued on.

“His strengths are in his discipline and his very good engine, his endurance and speed are of a high standard.”

As to whether Jack will make his senior debut against the Kangaroos on Saturday night at Telstra Dome is still to be determined.

“He is in the mix but I think it will all depend on Ablett and Buchanan, whether they are right to play, so he is a chance if they are not right.

“The medical staff has told us they (Ablett and Buchanan) are both a chance to play but we probably won’t know until we train tomorrow afternoon to see what they are able to do.”
