In one of the worst-kept secrets of the Gillette AFL Player Exchange Period, Carlton free agent Eddie Betts joined the Crows on a four-year deal worth $2 million. The club then managed to sign former Geelong key forward James Podsiadly on a two-year deal, ensuring the Crows have an immediate target in attack as Taylor Walker recovers from his knee reconstruction. On the other side of the ledge, Bernie Vince has become a Demon in exchange for the compensation pick (No.23) they received for losing free agent Colin Sylvia to Fremantle. – Harry Thring
BRISBANE LIONS
An active trade period but it's all being about getting fair deals done for players who want to leave. Elliot Yeo looks like getting to West Coast for pick 31 if the Eagles can trade picks with Collingwood. Sam Docherty will reach Carlton for pick 32 or 33 while the chances of Jared Polec getting to Port Adelaide, as he would like, depends on the club being able to secure an earlier pick than pick 34 to satisfy the Lions. Port is keen to retain pick 14 as it stands while the Lions would like a selection inside pick 20. Patrick Karnezis is on Collingwood's wish list while James Polkinghorne looks set to stay. Billy Longer has a decision to make as to whether he stays at the Lions or makes another bid to reach Essendon or St Kilda who have shown interest. Brent Staker is yet to commit but has an offer in front of him to consider. - Peter Ryan
CARLTON
The Blues still have some deals in play. They are poised to land Brisbane youngster Sam Docherty, either for pick 32 or 33. Josh Bootsma could be traded to West Coast. But with Dale Thomas in and Eddie Betts and Shaun Hampson out, the Blues have already had a busier trade period than this time last year. - Ashley Browne
COLLINGWOOD
The Magpies are yet to make much headway after losing Dale Thomas to free agency early in the free agency period. They are holding their nerve in relation to Heath Shaw's declared desire to get to Greater Western Sydney. Collingwood wants to execute a straight swap for out-of-contract Magpie Taylor Adams but the Giants want to sweeten the deal with an accompanying swap of picks. In the meantime, the Pies are looking to move up the draft order by swapping some picks with the Eagles that might land them pick 6 and 44 in exchange for pick 10 and 31. If Collingwood can pull that deal off then pick 44 is likely to be used in a deal to get Jesse White and Tony Armstrong from the Sydney Swans. - Peter Ryan
ESSENDON
The Bombers appear to have landed former Geelong forward Paul Chapman on a two-year deal, a smart move considering they are banned from the first two rounds of the draft because of the supplements scandal. They are also negotiating with the Western Bulldogs for the release of forward Stewart Crameri, most likely in exchange for pick 26, while Scott Gumbleton has declared his desire to move to Fremantle. - Ashley Browne
FREMANTLE
Essendon forward Scott Gumbleton has requested a trade to Fremantle, but a deal is yet to take shape. The Dockers spent the second week of the Gillette AFL Trade Period assessing Gumbleton's fitness. If the deal goes ahead, they are likely to use the pick No.58 acquired from Melbourne for Viv Michie. It is understood the Bombers, however, are requesting Fremantle's second-round selection (currently No.37 overall). The Dockers have maintained interest in Elliot Yeo, but he is expected to make his way to West Coast. Colin Sylvia was the first free agent to move clubs this year, joining Fremantle from Melbourne on the opening day of the exchange period. –Nathan Schmook
GEELONG
The Cats have been relatively quiet during the trade period to date, although some high-profile departures mean they are still likely to have an input before the period ends on October 25. Paul Chapman (Essendon), Josh Hunt (GWS) and James Podsiadly (Adelaide) were all delisted but are set to play on at rival clubs. The Cats have also been in the running to sign off-contract Giant Taylor Adams, although he is expected to join Collingwood. – James Dampney
GOLD COAST
The Suns have repeatedly said throughout the trade period that they will be sitting on their hands. They are pleased with the status of their playing list after quashing early speculation linking gun midfielder David Swallow with Melbourne. Having said that, list manager Scott Clayton is a shrewd operator and he will move swiftly next week if he sees an opportunity for the Suns. - Ashley Browne
GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
The Giants secured the second pick in the NAB AFL Draft on Friday morning, sending Dom Tyson to Melbourne and swapping picks with the Demons. Ruckman Shane Mumford joined the club, while Heath Shaw is also intending to move north on a five-year deal. That is yet to be signed off, with the Giants and Collingwood in negotiations over a trade that would see Taylor Adams join the Magpies. Geelong's premiership defender Josh Hunt has had a medical with the club and is hopeful of bolstering its young defence, with out-of-contract Swan Andrejs Everitt also in GWS' sights. The AFL's 18th club has also been linked with Saint Sam Fisher. Defender Josh Bruce intends to join St Kilda. – James Dampney
HAWTHORN
The Hawks have lost free agents Lance Franklin and Xavier Ellis, with only Ben McEvoy coming in. With four retirements, there are five spots still to fill for 2014. In what is considered a shallow NAB AFL Draft, and without early picks, it seems unlikely Hawthorn would wish to use more than the minimum three selections, with at least one of those a chance to be a rookie upgrade (Will Langford). So, with a week to go in the trade period and room in the salary cap, it would not surprise to see Graham Wright and his team spring another move. Brisbane Lions ruckman Billy Longer has been ruled out, so the Hawks might turn their attention to young midfielders. To get one, the compensation pick (No.19) received for the loss of Franklin would need to be put on the table. – Mark Macgugan
MELBOURNE
The Demons pulled off a coup when they secured exciting Greater Western Sydney youngster Dom Tyson, pick No.9 and pick No.53 (now No.57) in exchange for pick No.2 and No.20 (now No.22). It is hopeful of getting one of its preferred draft picks at No.9 in any event so was prepared to take the punt. Tyson is not the established young midfielder that Tom Rockcliff or Scott Selwood might have been but he should be before too long. The Demons also secured young Fremantle midfielder Viv Michie for the bargain basement of pick No.54 (now No.58). Once free agency compensation was announced, the Demons wasted no time in confirming their deal with Adelaide for Bernie Vince, which sent pick No.23 to the Crows. - Peter Ryan
NORTH MELBOURNE
After a drawn-out fortnight of back and forth, the Kangaroos finally managed to land their prized catch, Nick Dal Santo, on Friday. Even better, he arrived as a restricted free agent, meaning he didn't cost anything in return. But, with St Kilda having agreed to release the midfielder via free agency, expect a favour back the other way. Key defender Luke Delaney is keen to get to the Saints, and can be expected to be traded at a bargain basement price. Dal Santo's signing followed a big fortnight of off-field acquisitions for North Melbourne, and the excitement at Arden Street is already rising in anticipation of 2014. - Mark Macgugan
PORT ADELAIDE
Former Richmond speedster Matt White wasted no time in signing with the Power, adding much-needed outside class to its midfield. That class could be bolstered by the signing of young Brisbane Lion Jared Polec, who on Wednesday nominated the Power as his club of choice. Port might have to give up pick No.14 at the NAB AFL Draft to Gold Coast, who would trade picks No.20 and No.27 back to the Power. In that scenario, they would then give the Lions pick No.20 for Polec and keep No.27. – Harry Thring
RICHMOND
The Tigers required a ruckman and they snared their man early in the trade period, trading pick No.28 (now No.32) to Carlton for Shaun Hampson in the first trade of 2013. All has been quiet on the trade front since, with Robin Nahas the only Tiger expected to move if a deal can be found. He will be delisted if not. Speedster Matt White moved to Port Adelaide as an unrestricted free agent in search of more opportunities. – Nathan Schmook
ST KILDA
The Saints kick-started the Trade Period when they send ruckman Ben McEvoy to Hawthorn in exchange for pick No.17 (now No.18) and Shane Savage. Since then there has been plenty of talk but little action as the negotiations to send Nick Dal Santo to North Melbourne dragged on. That deal was finalised on the final day of free agency. The Saints are hoping to secure Luke Delaney from the Kangaroos and Josh Bruce from GWS, while Sam Fisher could be on his way to the Giants. – Nathan Schmook
SYDNEY SWANS
The stunning signing of Lance Franklin on a nine-year deal rocked the trade period and has forced a shake-up of the Swans' list. Having put off contract talks until the end of the season, Shane Mumford never received an offer from the club, instead taking a lucrative deal from GWS over another approach from Hawthorn as Franklin's hefty deal forced him to look elsewhere. As of Friday, out-of-contract trio Jesse White, Andrejs Everitt and Tony Armstrong are still members of the Swans, but it is considered only a matter of time until they find new homes. White favours a move to Collingwood and Everitt has drawn interest from St Kilda, West Coast and GWS, while Armstrong's future is unclear but Collingwood has some reported interest.– James Dampney
WESTERN BULLDOGS
Not much to report on the Bulldogs' front other than their desperation to land Essendon forward Stewart Crameri. The 25-year-old has been offered a four-year deal to switch clubs, with the Bombers offered pick No.22. But while the deal has been drawn out, both clubs are expected to agree on terms next week. – Harry Thring
WEST COAST
The Eagles have signed Xavier Ellis as an unrestricted free agent, and are now focused on completing a deal with the Brisbane Lions for Elliott Yeo. Negotiations have drawn out for two weeks and counting, but list manager Craig Vozzo said on Thursday that good progress had been made. It has been reported by AFL.com.au that West Coast may swap its No.6 pick in the NAB AFL Draft for Collingwood's Dale Thomas compensation pick (No.11), plus pick 27. It would then send pick 27 to the Lions for Yeo, with speculation suggesting the West Australian team believes its first-round draft target will still be available at No.11 anyway. - Mark Macgugan
