North Melbourne is currently eighth after a very tough first half to the season, and while the run home isn't easy, their performances to date would make fans very confident they will be seeing action in September.
The undermanned Roos fought valiantly on Friday night before going down to Geelong by only 13 points, and Laidley said he was happy with the effort of his troops.
"It was a pretty good performance, but there was still a hell of a lot of improvement," he said.
"I suppose the great thing at the moment, we're playing with a fair bit of youthful exuberance, and we do have a few injuries. But I'm really enjoying the guys at the moment because we're getting some really good performances.
"That's really pleasing, but we're certainly after four points."
Fremantle coach Mark Harvey was issuing instructions to the media on the weekend, telling them to write about how dangerous Fremantle are, despite their 1-10 record, but Laidley said he was more interested in the danger provided by the 5-1-5 Kangaroos.
"I haven't given that any thought. I look at it and think: 'Gee, we're pretty dangerous ourselves, with the way we're playing, with our youthful exuberance'.
"I think that's fantastic, and we'll go out there all guns blazing, as we did last weekend, as we have done the majority of the year, and that's the way we'll continue to do it.
"It's really important that -- certainly myself and the rest of our coaching staff -- spend a hell of a lot of time on what we're doing, because we're so young."
