Geelong needs to start stringing together four consistent quarters of football before it can match it with the best sides, according to midfielder Corey Enright.

The Cats were a dejected bunch on Saturday night after scoring a frustrating draw with West Coast at Skilled Stadium, despite leading for almost the entire match.

“We really wanted to win the game on Saturday and unfortunately a draw doesn’t mean a win, so we didn’t quite achieve that goal,” Enright told afl.com.au.

“We played in patches on Saturday and you can’t afford to do that against good sides. Not playing solid for four quarters hurt us.

“We just want to play four consistent quarters and strong footy. We’re getting there and hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can finish off the year strongly and take it into next year.”

The Cats finish the season with a trip to Brisbane to face the Lions next Saturday night, before hosting St Kilda at Skilled Stadium in the final round of the season.

Enright is already looking forward to next season, keen to put behind him a disappointing season for the club which has only produced six-and-a-half wins.

But he has been encouraged by strong performances in defeat against the highly-rated Lions, Crows and Eagles at Skilled Stadium and a victory over top side Port Adelaide.

“Our highs are really good and when we play that way we feel we can beat anyone,” Enright said. “It’s just a matter of consistency and that’s what we’re looking for.”

Enright is also looking for further development in himself as a footballer.

Now with 53 games under his belt, the 21 year-old is one of the more experienced youngsters at the club and understands the need to display leadership on the ground.

“I’m still not where I want to be, so hopefully I’m learning with each game,” he said.

“I’ve played 50-odd games now so I’m at the stage where I want to put in a consistent performance each week and just keep the bar at the same level.”
