Jarrad Waite of the Carlton Football Club is the round 10 National AFL Rising Star nominee.

Son of the dual premiership player Vin, who played 153 games for Carlton between 1966 and 1975, Jarrad spent the 2002 season playing in the reserves and was the only player on the Carlton list not to play senior football.

While he displayed great form in the latter part of the year, Waite remained in the VFL which was determined as an important component of his development.

The youngster was prepared for AFL football this year by learning the tasks in playing key roles both forward and back, as well as the fact that his light frame was still developing.

Stronger and heavier in the 2003 AFL Premiership Season, Waite has been selected for every senior match so far by the Blues. His running ability and dash for the ball have certainly enhanced his emerging star as the year has progressed.

Playing against Fremantle on the weekend, Waite kicked two goals and two behinds for Carlton and had a total of 21 possessions at the end of the game.

Recruited by Carlton from the Murray Bushrangers at the 2001 National AFL Draft, Waite represented Vic Country in the National AFL Under 18 Championships.
