In a new feature to collingwoodfc.com.au, “Stat Attack” will feature an in-depth look into the recently played Collingwood match.

Collingwood’s 46 point win against Richmond on Thursday 26 February showcased the individual scoring threat that the Magpies possess.

On goalkickers

Collingwood has thrived on its ability to have multiple goal scorers in a game, a threat it looks to continue this season.

The Magpies had 12 individual goal kickers on the night, three more than they averaged in the 2008 home and away season.

Last year the Magpies ranked third in the competition averaging 8.73 goal kickers a game.  Geelong reigned supreme with 9.91 goal kickers a game and the Western Bulldogs were second best with 9.73 goal kickers a game.

Below is a ranking of how many goal kickers a club averaged in the home and away season compared to where they finished on the ladder.

On inside-50s

Collingwood had a total of 47 inside-50s for the match.  There was an even dispersion across the arc with 15 occurring on the left side, 17 from the centre and 15 from the right.

27 inside-50s (57%) resulted in the Magpies maintaining possession with 24 resulting a score (14 goals and 10 behinds).

Richmond capitalised on Collingwood’s poor delivery into the forward 50 taking clean possession of the ball on 12 occasions (26%).  Eight inside-50s resulted in an immediate stoppage.

On interchanges

The Magpies continue to lead the way with interchanges racking up 114 (includes two super-subs) in round two.  Essendon was the second highest club with 101 (does not include NAB Challenge).

Over the first two rounds, ruckman Josh Fraser has been interchanged 17 times to lead the club and has played 59% of game time.

On Dayne Beams

In his first senior game, albeit in the preseason competition, Dayne Beams proved to Collingwood coaches and supporters that he is a ready-made AFL player.

Beams played 52% of the game and managed to collect 14 possessions.  He used the ball with an 86% effectiveness rate and was interchanged seven times.
