Mature-age recruit Paul Puopolo has been named Best First Year Player at the 2011 Peter Crimmins Medal on Saturday 8 October.

Puopolo was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 National Draft and, along with fellow mature-age recruit Isaac Smith, delivered a stand-out first season of AFL football.

The 23-year-old South Australian earned his debut in Round 7 versus Port Adelaide and never looked back, playing in every game since.

Puopolo’s success at containing opposition small forwards and rebounding the ball from the back-50 led to a great season by any standard, let alone for a first-year player.
