FREMANTLE defender Roger Hayden will remain at the club until the end of 2010 after signing a one-year contract extension on Wednesday.

Hayden was already contracted for 2009 but said he was eager to commit for an additional season.

"With all the young blokes coming through and the number of new players joining Fremantle, it's going to be an exciting time to be around the club," Hayden said.

"I've still got a lot to contribute and I'm keen to be a part of Fremantle's future."

The 28-year-old, who will represent Australia in the 2008 Toyota International Rules Series that commences in Perth on Friday night, has played 94 games since making his debut in 2002.

Beginning his career on Fremantle's rookie list, Hayden enjoyed his most consistent year in 2007 – playing all 22 games – but hamstring troubles and a punctured lung restricted him to 14 this season.

Fremantle has been particularly proactive in retaining its key players in recent months, with talented backman Michael Johnson extending his contract and Victorian pair David Mundy and Ryan Murphy re-signing for another two years.
