THE BRISBANE Lions have suspended forward Rhan Hooper from the club for 28 days for "repeated breaches of his playing contract during the pre-season".

The Lions said in a statement on Saturday that Hooper had failed to attend December's scheduled training sessions.

"We are working with Rhan on this ongoing issue in the best interests of the player and the Lions," the statement said.

"The team has set benchmark standards and the club had no other option than to suspend Rhan in his and the club's best short and long term interests."

Hooper played 20 games in 2008 for 39 overall, and kicked 19 goals for the season. He was recruited from Mt Gravatt in Queensland.
