For St Kilda Captain Nick Riewoldt, the 2010 season saw him forced to watch his team from the sidelines for just over three months.

Suffering a major hamstring injury during the Saints’ Round 3 match against Collingwood, Riewoldt underwent surgery the following week and was unable to lead his team onto the ground again until Round 15.

“It was very difficult for me not being able to play so many games in such an important year for the Club” Riewoldt explains. “After the disappointment of 2009, we were all really keen to get another good start to the year, so it was hard for me not to be able to contribute to that.”

“My first game back in Round 15 against Brisbane was really exciting, although I think my family and friends were on the edge of their seats when I went up for that first mark.”

Although his presence on the ground was clearly missed, Riewoldt says that he worked closely with his teammates at every opportunity.

“Even though I wasn’t able to run out with the boys, I worked really closely with everyone during the week. Ross also gave me the opportunity to sit in the coaches box during a number of games, which was a great experience and gave me a completely different view of the game.”
