As part of Friday’s training session, the players took part in an hour-long modified practice match at Lakeside Oval.

It was teammate vs. teammate; Shane Mumford took on Seaby in the ruck, Jude Bolton went up against Brett Kirk, Sam Reid lined up on Jake Orreal in the goal square whilst Heath Grundy was given the task of Adam Goodes.

Following the match Coaching Coordinator John Longmire gave his assessment on the top 10 performers in alphabetical order…

Heath Grundy
- He played on a quality player in Adam Goodes today and looked really comfortable at centre half-back. He has carried over his good form of last season.

Tadhg Kennelly - He is getting his timing back into his game and it was great to see his trademark run out of defence. He matched up on draftee Gary Rohan today.

Brett Kirk - He played on Jude Bolton and won plenty of the ball, Kirky is looking really fit.

Nick Malceski - He played off the half back, his voice amongst the backline was really impressive and his ball use was excellent.

Martin Mattner - It was really good leadership from Marty today, he was very strong and provided good run from half back.

Shane Mumford - He played on Seaby and it is great that both of them are really getting used to the midfielders around them. I have been really impressed with Mumford’s pre-season.

Ryan O’Keefe - It was another hard working effort from Pebbles and he provided plenty of drive from the midfield.

Ted Richards - He was working really well amongst the back six and after colliding with Adam Goodes, looks like he has certainly overcome the collision injury of last year.

Mark Seaby - It was the first hit-out for Seaby, who wasn’t able to play in the first practice match. His body looked good and he will only get better with more match conditioning.

Byron Sumner - He started the game really well, got himself into good positions and his ball use was great. He didn’t finish out the game after he got a corked thigh.
