NORTH Melbourne defender Daniel Pratt says he will have to wear the “soft” tag from fellow hardman, Hawthorn’s Campbell Brown – for now.

But he will keep it in the back of his mind should the pair cross paths again.

On television on Sunday Brown labelled Pratt “soft” and “pathetic” after a left jab from Hawks teammate Jordan Lewis – delievered to Pratt’s midrift – left the Kangaroo sprawled on the MCG turf during Saturday’s round three clash.

Lewis was charged with a Level One striking offence for the blow and faces a one-match ban unless he decides to fight the charge at the AFL Tribunal.

Pratt, while reluctant to comment on the incident in case of a looming tribunal date, admitted the blow took him “by surprise” – but not as much as Brown’s words.

“I probably didn’t expect that coming but he’s probably going to say anything to try to help Jordan get off, so you’re going to have to speak to him about those comments,” Pratt said.

“I’ll definitely keep it saved up for next time.”

Pratt, arguably one of North Melbourne most courageous players, said given the Hawks won the match he would have to “cop it on the chin”.

But does he think he’s soft, a term every footballer dreads hearing?

“I don’t know about that … if I look at what he says and what happened on the weekend, if you’re going to be hard at the footy you put your head over the ball,” he said.

“That’s what I think being tough is, not other things that happen in a game … I’m happy with myself along those lines.”
