Much has been said and written about Travis Boak since he arrived at Alberton. In recent weeks, the topic of discussion has centred on the level at which the 18 year old has been selected to play. In round four of the SANFL, Boak showed he can mix it with the big boys and that a berth in the AFL may come sooner rather than later.

The Power’s development coach, Darren Trevena has named Travis Boak as this week’s SANFL Player of the Week. He said that Boak dealt well with the expectations surrounding his first league game.

“He had pressure on him and he adapted quite well. As the game went on they (Glenelg) used him more and more,” Trevena told PortAdelaideFC.com.au.

“When he got his second goal they were all over him, from there on whenever he yelled they used him and he got a lot more of the ball. He earned the respect of the players.”

Trevena was also impressed with the way Boak adjusted his skills for wet weather footy.

“He played around the centre and he was clean with his hands in the wet conditions. He had excellent work rate and speed to get contested balls and receive handballs,” he said.

In total there were 15 Power players in the SANFL across the weekend and Darren Trevena has a report on all of them…

Ryan Williams (Centrals reserves) - “He had a solid game up until half time, and then he got driven into the ground and hurt his right shoulder and neck. He didn’t take any further part after that.”

Nathan Batsanis (Eagles reserves) - “He had 28 touches, another solid performance and he’s pushing for senior selection. He’s been an emergency for the last two weeks and he’s around the mark.”

Paul Stewart (Eagles) - “He provided plenty of run from the half back line, it was a good game by Stewy and he is learning and developing.”

Jonathan Giles (Centrals) - “With McKenzie getting injured he had to ruck on his own most of the day. I thought he rucked very well against Paul Lindsay and got on top of him in the third quarter. He did well against a past state ruckman. It was an excellent game by Gilesy.”

Peter Hardy (Sturt reserves) - “He was their fifth best. He did a couple of brilliant things throughout the day. He just needs to find a bit more of the ball.”

Alex Lee (Sturt reserves) - “He played centre half-back on three different opponents. Each opponent only had one or two possessions each. We saw a more positive side of Alex in his running through the line of the footy. He tackled hard and attacked the ball hard.”

Hugh Minson (Norwood reserves) - “He played full forward and ruck and kicked two goals. Some of his centre tap work was excellent. He needs to get some more consistency in a full four quarters.”

Nick Lower (Norwood) - “He played a solid game, (Brant) Chambers only got three shots on goal and kicked two points, so he did a good job on him.”

Matthew Thomas (Norwood) - “He was on half back-flank. He was unlucky not to be our Player of the Week with another excellent game. He had some great air assists and was named best-on-ground. He played tough and hard and made nine tackles. He is pushing for (AFL) selection.

Fabian Deluca (Sturt) - “He was the most dominant ruckman on the ground. Sturt always looked stronger when he was rucking. He showed good courage and he was aggressive. He was named third best for Sturt, conditions probably didn’t suit him, but for the conditions he was quite good.”

Adam Thomson (Sturt) - “He improved from last week and kicked a couple of goals, he was named Sturt’s second best player. He was tough and courageous and picked up plenty of possessions.”

Tom Logan (Glenelg) - “He worked very hard for Glenelg but got injured five minutes into the third quarter. He had to change his game style to suit the conditions. He created lots of opportunities but was probably too quick for the players around him.”

Alipate Carlile (South Adelaide) - “Bob spoiled well, looked confident and worked his way into the game pretty well. He was solid.”

Gavin Grose (North Adelaide reserves) - “He played full back and did a couple of nice things. The ball didn’t get down there that much but when it did he went quite well. I’m pretty happy with the way he went.”

As revealed by Darren Trevena a number of Power players are performing well in the SANFL and next week he’ll once again tell PortAdelaideFC.com.au who’s knocking on the door for AFL selection.
