It's always a question that comes up at media conferences for the coach who has the unenviable task that weekend – what do you do to stop Lance Franklin?
This week it's master tactician Rodney Eade who has to decide if defence has to become more of a priority this week for the high-scoring Dogs in order to combat the centurion.
"It's an interesting point – we've actually discussed that, and whether we can do a bit of both," he said. "I don't know, that's probably the thing.
"Hawthorn generally like to get numbers back, they like to support their defence and start their run from there.
"But certainly our forwards have kicked enough goals this year, so it shows we can score, and we can score quickly at times.
"But I think it's not so much getting numbers back, it's more of an overall defensive mindset amongst every player – that was the thing that was holding us in good stead for the first 13 or 14 weeks, and that's the sort of mentality we need on Friday night."
Eade said the side was getting back to working hard when the opposition had the ball.
"I think we were early in the year, and I was pretty happy with that last Saturday – I thought we worked pretty hard in that area."
Eade was strong on who was most likely to be given the immediate job on the Hawks spearhead.
"I think Dale (Morris) is probably our best defender, so he's more than likely to get the gig.
"But then you've got (Jarryd) Roughhead and you've got other players as well.
"I know Franklin is a gun player, but they've got other good support players so we've got to be mindful of them.
"But Dale's probably more likely to start on him."
