Black, a veteran of 13 AFL seasons, will buck the exodus of Lions players that has already included Michael Rischitelli (Gold Coast) and Jared Brennan, and could yet add Justin Sherman.
The 31-year-old, whose achievements include a Brownlow Medal, Norm Smith Medal and three premierships, remains the Lions' most important midfielder.
Rather than be drawn on any frustration with his own contract, Black said the club was in a difficult position.
"I know the club's probably been a bit disappointed by the fact that so late in the year there's six or seven of their better players, or mature senior players in the squad, [who are] out of contract," he told The Footy Show on Thursday night.
"That's the lie of the land up there at the moment and the club's trying to work their way through it as best as possible.
"From what I believe, next week I should be able to put pen to paper and get the contract out of the way for another year."
The future of Brendan Fevola remains the biggest topic at the Lions, who last week suspended their full-forward indefinitely.
Fevola, who has two years remaining on his Lions contract, is under investigation after allegedly exposing himself to a woman at a non-club function.
He is yet to be interviewed by Queensland police over the alleged incident.
While any fallout could jeopardise the 29-year-old's AFL career, Black was hopeful it could be resolved.
"If I was to pick one way or the other, I'd say he'll be there (at the Lions in 2011)," he said.
Black also believed out-of-contract defender Josh Drummond, who continues his recovery from a knee reconstruction, would re-sign.
