IT'S NOT quite a Brownlow, a Norm Smith or a Charlie Sutton Medal, but Western Bulldog defender Brian Lake has already claimed an individual honour in 2010.

His Toyota AFL Dream Team score of 192 points against North Melbourne on Saturday was the highest score recorded in the history of the competition, surpassing previous efforts from Richmond's Matthew Richardson and Geelong's Joel Selwood.

Lake's record-breaking tally comprised 35 kicks, six handballs and a whopping 22 marks as the Bulldogs romped to a 70-point win against North.

His score was three points greater than Richardson's 189-point game from round 21, 2006 when he booted 9.5 from 21 kicks, three handballs and 19 marks.

A huge 11 tackles helped propel Selwood to a 185-point game against Hawthorn in round 17, 2009, along with 19 kicks and 23 handballs.

Perennial Dream Team favourite Joel Bowden was loved by fantasy football pundits with good reason - he boasts three of the top 10 all-time scores, with a best of 180 points against Port Adelaide in 2008.

Bowden played a similar role to Lake, directing play out of the backline and racking up enormous numbers of marks and kicks to boost his Dream Team score.

The top 10 list reads as a who's who of AFL stars, with Jimmy Bartel, Chris Judd, Jonathan Brown and Jason Akermanis all featuring.

Defenders (Lake and Bowden), midfielders (Selwood, Bartel, Judd, Akermanis) and forwards (Richardson and Brown) all feature in the top 10, but ruckmen are conspicuously absent.

Given the importance of All-Australians Dean Cox and Aaron Sandilands in recent years, it's a surprise that the tap merchants aren't ranked higher.

Port Adelaide and Hawthorn have borne the brunt of the best Dream Team performances, with each side featuring three times as the opposition that conceded a historically huge individual score.

Similarly, 2006 and 2008 were particularly good years for individual highlights, sharing six of the best personal tallies.
