BROWNLOW medallist Jimmy Bartel has revealed he has almost completed negotiations to extend his career at Geelong.

Bartel's name has been mentioned by the media when speculating on possible targets of new franchise Greater Western Sydney, but the classy midfielder told Channel Nine's The Footy Show his new contract was close to being finalised.

"It's still being worked through but I am pretty confident it will be settled in the not too distant future," Bartel said.

He said the new contract would almost certainly make him a one-club player.

"[That] will be great. Not too many players get to stay at one club for 10-plus years. It will be a special feeling if I can see out my playing days here."

Bartel also said he would play this weekend against Adelaide after scans on his brain revealed no damage following a heavy knock to his head against the Saints last Saturday.

"[The scan] showed nothing negative, which is great,” Bartel said.

"The club should be applauded for being extra diligent because I had concussion earlier in the year. They are doing the right thing by me and checking up on my health and well being."
