HAWTHORN'S Michael Osborne capitalised on a mistake by the Sydney Swans to extend his side's early lead at the MCG on Friday night.

Swan Dan Hannebery needed a cool head coming out of defence with his team under siege, but his kick to teammate Nick Smith didn't find its mark.

Osborne pounced on the ball like one of the myriad seagulls at the 'G would pounce on a stray chip.

He knocked the ball forward, left Smith in his wake, took possession and kicked a wonderful goal to press home his team's advantage.
