NORTH Melbourne head of football Donald McDonald has quashed speculation the Kangaroos will trade for Addam Maric or Clinton Young.

On Thursday, Melbourne list manager Tim Harrington said he was confident of reaching a deal with the Kangaroos for small forward Maric.

But McDonald told Trade Week Radio on AFL.com.au otherwise on Friday morning.

"We interviewed Addam a couple of weeks ago, just doing our due diligence, as you do…but I don't think that anything will happen there at this stage," McDonald said.

"It was just one of those things that we heard that Addam was available, so we went through the process.

"He's a great young bloke, but at this stage I don't think anything could happen there.

"We had a chat to Melbourne on Monday this week and it didn't seem like there was going to be any possibility of a deal, so we move on."

But McDonald didn't shut the door entirely on the 21 year-old ending up at Arden Street.

"You never know, he might be there at the pre-season or as a rookie," he said.

It had also been reported that North Melbourne had requested a medical from Hawthorn's Young, with a view to a possible trade.

McDonald said a deal with the Hawks for the 2008 premiership player was also highly unlikely.

"Clinton's name has been mentioned earlier in the week, but at this stage we're not going to do anything in relation to Clinton," McDonald said.

"He's obviously been a really good player for the Hawks, but at this stage, no, we're not going to do anything."
