Young gun Chris Mayne had his passion for the Fremantle Football Club rewarded today when he signed a contract extension that will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2010 season.

The 19-year-old is the third Fremantle player from the 2007 National Draft to commit to the Club until 2010, joining fellow draftees Rhys Palmer and Clayton Hinkley.

Speaking to the media today, Chris said he was delighted with the club’s move to extend his tenure with Fremantle, saying it gave him further confidence to successfully build on his three game AFL career.

“I was very excited to hear they wanted to put me on for another year,” Chris said.

“You just get that feeling that you’re wanted at the club and you just feel so happy and excited about the future.

“I love coming in here everyday. I wake up in the morning so excited to come to Fremantle. With all the guys here, they make you feel so welcome. It makes you feel like you’re part of a family – this is my second family – and coming here everyday and training and making sure we can all get out on the park is the best feeling in the world.

Chris was recruited from Perth in the 2007 National Draft at selection 40.

Chris, who made his debut in round two against Hawthorn, has played three AFL games this year, averaging 11 disposals, four marks and one goal per match.

He will be up for selection this week after playing for Perth in the Demons 19 point win over Claremont in the WAFL.
