He was a regular goal scorer over the first half of the year and was mainly used deep in attack despite Brad Scott earmarking him for more of a midfield role at the start of the season.
Thomas kicked bags of three and five against Collingwood and Fremantle respectively and he continued on a four week hot streak. But the small forward fell victim to injury not long after and was heavily restricted.
Continuing to battle a knee complaint up until round 20, Thomas eventually decided to call a premature end to his season and go in for surgery with North out of finals contention.
Despite playing six games below full-fitness, he finished with 29 goals and was his team's leading goal-kicker providing a great platform for him to work off.
AFL.com.au’s Steve Lavell says: Breakout season was eventually spoiled by a knee injury. Bettered a five-goal performance against Fremantle with seven against Carlton. Consistency is still his biggest obstacle.
