CTV > Shannon Cox's post match interview

After the side’s 24-point loss to Fremantle last Friday night, Shannon Cox believes it is important to quickly move on and focus on finals.

Speaking with CTV before catching the red-eye back to Melbourne, Cox mentioned coach Mick Malthouse’s emphasis on the next job at hand, winning a final.

“Mick just made a real big point after the game that we deserve to play in finals and it doesn’t come easy I suppose.  There is always ninth, tenth (side) people underneath us that want to be there.  We are, so we just need to take that as a positive,” Cox said after the game.

“The conditions, other than the wind which was really swirly, other than that it was very nice conditions out there we just didn’t have what it took.  We can’t make excuses we just lost, we lost.

“We now have to focus on finals.”

Cox was one of the better players for the Magpie team collecting 20-possessions playing in a defender/midfielder role.  This was his fourth game of the season after chalking up eight in his debut season last year.

“I have tried to take it with both hands and hopefully I have done that.  I missed out on a few opportunities on kicking goals (tonight).  I have done my job to a certain extent I suppose, but it’s good just to be back with the boys.  It would have been even better to have another win but beggars can’t be choosers.”

Cox will make his first finals appearance next Saturday afternoon against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.  After coming off a few solid games, the 22-year old will no doubt be a regular player in the 2009 team.
