Welcome to the AFL March

Fremantle’s Community Development Programme will host more than 400 students, teachers and parents from ten schools that participated in the club’s Welcome to the AFL programme.

As part of the programme’s graduation, the participating students will parade on Subiaco Oval prior to bounce down before settling in to experience what will be the first live game of AFL most of them have ever seen.

The Welcome to the AFL programme, a new initiative of the Community Development Programme in 2007, is designed to attract and engage new participants in Australian football and introduce Australian football to those who otherwise may not have had exposure to or have a limited understanding of the game.

Conducted over five weeks, the programme introduces students to different aspects of the game including the history of the game and the Fremantle Football Club, practical skill development sessions and understanding and respecting the laws of the game and the officials who implement them.

Once students have a sound understanding of the game, they participate in modified game play and receive Certificates of Participation from a Fremantle player or Johnny ‘the Doc’ Docker at the conclusion of the course as well as attending a Fremantle home game.

Heart Foundation ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ Demo

Club-aligned charity the Heart Foundation, have a special treat for members and supporters at the game with the South Padbury ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ Demo Team performing on Subiaco Oval.

Jump Rope for Heart aims to engage school kids through a skipping program designed to build coordination skills, while raising much-needed funds for the Heart Foundation. As well, kids get to have lots of fun learning cool skipping tricks which the South Padbury ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ Demo Team will display just before bouncedown! Don’t miss them.
