SKIPPER Jonathan Brown has been named to lead the Vics in Saturday’s Hall of Fame Tribute Match, despite missing the Brisbane Lions’ loss to Geelong in round seven.

Eight Cats were named in the streamlined 30-man Victoria squad, including grand final heroes Paul Chapman and Steve Johnson, and Gary Ablett.

Ablett isn’t your average Cat, with his Big V memories including trying on the guernsey of one of the game’s greatest ever players.

For his part, coach Mark Thompson says representing your state is a special opportunity and this year has a whole new meaning; the first State-of-Origin clash since 1999 is also the league's celebration of 150 years.

Port Adelaide’s Daniel Motlop is a new inclusion in the 30-man Dream Team squad, after he kicked seven goals against Essendon on Sunday afternoon.

You can have your own say by selecting from current players and luminaries of the past in naming the best Victorian and Dream Team sides of the last 31 years.

Get back to your footy roots

The tribute match is the highlight of the AFL's Community Football Weekend, and as the only game on, it gives fans the opportunity to make a special trip to their grassroots footy club.

Many players will be making their own pilgrimages to the clubs where they first strapped on a boot. Dale Morris, Jared Brennan and Travis Cloke are the most recent contributors to our ongoing ‘Junior Days’ series.

The Community Football Match Locator is a useful tool to find out who's playing and where, whether it's Motton Preston and Wesley Vale, Augusta Margaret River and Busselton or Balywn and Noble Park.

Every club outside of Victoria will run onto the MCG with the Dream Team for the clash against the Big V, with the guernsey worn by captain Andrew McLeod and his men bearing the names of 1246 local clubs.

Be part of a once-in-a-lifetime footy experience

Ten thousand people will have a taste of what it feels like to walk – or run – out onto the MCG for a State-of-Origin clash. Sign up for your chance to be part of a moment 150 years in the making.
