SYDNEY Swans co-captain Adam Goodes has revealed the "run at all costs" edict that spurred draftee Lewis Jetta to his eye-catching effort against Carlton on Saturday night.

Jetta, who was taken at No.14 in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft, lit up Blacktown Olympic Park with several blazing runs that reaped two goals, including a nine-point super goal.

Along with fellow recruit Ben McGlynn, Jetta was one of the key players in the Swans' 12-point win against the Blues - their first NAB Cup triumph in eight years.

Goodes said coach Paul Roos had instructed Jetta to back his pace and the players had encouraged the 20-year-old to do the same.

"Last week in the practice match, Roosy showed a bit of footage when Lewis got it in the corridor and instead of taking off straight down the middle of the ground, he took a few steps back and tried to hand it off to someone," he recalled.

"Roosy posed the question: 'What do we want Lewie to do there?' and everyone just told him to take off, run through the middle and back yourself.

"I just reinforced that on Saturday night before we ran out. I said to him, 'When you get the football I don't want you to handball, unless you're handballing it off to someone else and getting it back.

"'I want you to run, take a bounce and kick it as far as you can and if that means you're having shots on goal, then that's a win for us'."

Goodes rated the Blacktown venue, which will serve as Team GWS' training base, as a "fantastic" ground and praised the surface.

However, the dual Brownlow Medallist said it was unlikely he would ever ply his trade in Sydney's west on a regular basis.

Goodes comes out of contract at the end of 2011 but he said the Swans would always be given the first opportunity to re-sign him.

"I don't see myself playing anywhere else but this football club," he said.

"I'm co-captain of the club, it's a fantastic football club and I'm just very blessed to have been involved with it in the last 13 years."

The Swans will take on St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night and Goodes said it would be a great chance to preview the season opener between the two sides.

"That's a huge bonus and they'd be thinking the same thing - have a look at their new players, who's playing good footy at the moment, who's in good pre-season form," he said.

"Nothing will be too much changed in the game plan from the way the Saints played last year and the way we play. It's a really good challenge for us against a really high quality team in St Kilda."
