THE MONEY continues to flow in for favourite Gary Ablett, but the biggest mover in Brownlow Medal betting has been classy St Kilda ball-winner Nick Dal Santo.

Ablett further shortened into $2.50 with TAB Sportsbet but it was Dal Santo that punters are hoping is catching the eye of umpires.

"The best backed this week has been Dal Santo," Gary Davies from TAB Sportsbet said.

"He's been the most-solidly supported. He's $13 now and he was $21 last week."

Carlton captain Chris Judd, the second pick, eased slightly from $4.40 to $5, however Davies said that was more due to the continued support for the market's top pick.

Punters have continued to place their hard earned on Ablett following his best afield 46-disposal display against Adelaide, and despite him being at the shortest-ever price for this early in a season.

"As great a player as he is and he was fantastic last week, it's a very, very short quote for this early in the season," Davies said.

"No-one's ever been this short this early in the season … and people are still backing him. We've still had money for him at the $2.50."

Davies said that Ablett, who opened a $7 favourite when TAB Sportsbet opened Brownlow betting in December, had been "easily the best backed".

However, he warned punters with short memories there was "no such thing as a certainty" when it came to AFL football's highest individual honour.

"I've been operating for so many years and I know that it's fraught with danger taking too-short odds on the Brownlow after only so few rounds.

"We saw what happened last season; he missed four games towards the end of the year with that ankle injury and there's no doubt it cost him the Brownlow.

"So be very wary when he gets in that short."

Cat Joel Selwood ($17) is the fourth pick behind Dal Santo, with St Kilda's Brendon Goddard ($21) another popular early-season tip with punters.

Ablett and Dal Santo's early-season dominance is reflected in the AFL Coaches' Association Player of the Year award.

The star Saint heads the leaderboard by a single vote from Ablett, the pair well clear of the nearest challengers.
