MATURE-age recruit Ian Callinan is poised to continue his AFL career, with Adelaide confirming he'll be offered a contract extension for 2012.

It follows the news forward Jason Porplyzia and promising defender Daniel Talia have both re-signed with the club.

Callinan showed some good form in his first season with the Crows despite being limited to only three appearances through injury.

The 28-year-old rookie overcame a bicep tear to make his long awaited debut against Geelong in round 14, but his AFL fairytale was put back on hold when he strained his hamstring in Adelaide's win over the Sydney Swans the next week.

He came back through the SANFL and was recalled to the team for the last match of the season against West Coast at Patersons Stadium.

Callinan is yet to finalise a new deal with the Crows, but the club is committed to retaining the four-time Central District premiership player.

List manager David Noble said the only question that remained was whether the former JJ Liston Trophy winner, for the best and fairest player in the VFL, would be kept as a rookie, or promoted to the senior list.

"There's a possibility Ian will go onto the senior list, but at worst he'll be re-rookied," Noble told AFL.com.au.

"We'll wait and see how he goes in the finals with Central District, but moving forward we see him staying around the place.

"It's too hard to say which list he'll be on based on what's happening with trades and a few other bits and pieces."

Several other out-of-contract players, including experienced midfielder Brad Symes, utility Will Young and third-year rookie Chris Schmidt could also have to wait until the end of trade week to discover their futures at the club.

Adelaide has already made three forced changes to its playing list, with defender Phil Davis joining Greater Western Sydney and utilities Scott Stevens and Brad Moran both announcing their retirements.

The club has filled two of those vacancies, elevating rookies Matt Wright and Aidan Riley to the primary list.

The Crows are poised to lose another two players, with ruckman Ivan Maric and promising forward Jack Gunston both requesting trades.

Tony Armstrong is also yet to re-sign, but the club remains confident he won't follow Maric, Gunston and Davis in walking out the door.

Injury-ravaged ruckman James Craig is also out of contract, but a shortage of big men at Adelaide is likely to see the untried 20-year-old stay at West Lakes.

Noble said the club was unlikely to make any final decisions on list management until Neil Craig's successor was appointed.

"There are quite a few of those [out-of-contract] guys, who are in and out of different modelling that we do, unfortunately," Noble said.

"It depends on what happens with trade-outs like Ivan and Jack, and who you keep.

"We also haven't finalised with [recruiting manager] Matty Rendell how many picks we want in the draft, which will obviously influence how many changes we make to the list.

"Until we get through the next couple of major points, being the appointment of a new coach and trade week … we've got some ideas, but they won't be clarified."

Adelaide is already in talks with Richmond about a trade for Maric.

The Crows have asked for the end-of-round compensation pick - the pick they received for Nathan Bock and on-traded to the Tigers for Richard Tambling last year - in exchange for the 24-year-old ruckman.

Gunston's management is yet to reveal which clubs are in the hunt for the homesick teenager, but North Melbourne, Hawthorn, Carlton and the Western Bulldogs are all believed to have expressed an interest.

Noble said Adelaide would be in the market for a line-breaking midfielder, key utility and a ruckman in the upcoming draft/exchange period.

"With Scott Stevens, Phil Davis, Brad Moran and now Maric leaving the club, we've lost four talls to go with 'Bocky' last year," he said.

"Gunston also had the potential to be that third tall option at either end of the ground.

"We'd always thought a key utility was part of our needs and whilst you don't necessarily play two ruckmen, you still need to have them developing underneath, so we'll be looking at that too.

"I still think we need to continue to work in the midfield as well.

"So, the needs are the same, but the order seems to be changing on a weekly basis."
