RICHMOND'S Graham Polak is recovering well after being taken from the ground on a stretcher after a nasty head clash in Coburg's match with Werribee on Saturday.

Polak was carried from the field in the first term after colliding with former Hawk Mitch Thorp, but joined team-mates on the interchange bench during the second quarter before leaving the ground and returning home to rest.

He was cleared of any damage on Sunday morning when assessed by club doctor Greg Hickey.

Polak will be monitored closely in the coming days before a decision is made about his chances of playing this weekend.

Polak sustained a severe brain injury after being struck by a tram in June 2008. He spent several days in an induced coma and then several months in rehabilitation. The Tigers delisted him after the 2009 season before taking him back as a mature-age rookie.

The 26-year-old was elevated to the senior list early this season and has played three AFL games this year, including the team's first win of the season over Port Adelaide.
