On Wednesday morning, Leon Davis and Josh Fraser visited St Joseph’s Primary School in Collingwood to participate in the Red Cross Good Start Breakfast Club. The aim of the program is to encourage children to start the day with a healthy breakfast and remind them of the importance of nutrition and a well-balanced diet.

According to the Red Cross, around 25 percent of children regularly miss breakfast and the importance of this message is being missed by Australian families. Children who miss breakfast are less able to concentrate, more prone to fidgeting and find learning difficult by mid morning.

St Joseph’s Primary is just one out of 260 Good Start Breakfast Clubs operating nationally serving in excess of 800,000 meals a year.

Fraser and Davis assisted with serving breakfast, chatting to the group of students, signing autographs and participating in a hand ball competition.

“It is really important to start the day with toast, cereal and fruit and this will help you grow and stay strong”, Fraser told the students in attendance.

“The boys at the club always make sure to eat a healthy breakfast to help get through training and games”.

Coles has been proudly supporting the program since 2006, helping to provide more than 2.75 million breakfasts to school children across Australia each year and almost 500 breakfasts in Victoria every day.
