The Swans Reserves are back on track after their round two win over Belconnen at ANZ Stadium on Saturday. The young Swans outfit, who trailed at each break, piled on seven goals in the final quarter to beat the Magpies by 13 points.

Irish recruit Brendan Murphy was the Swans’ best player, playing at centre half back in just his fourth game of football. The nineteen-year-old was drafted at number 26 in the 2007 Rookie Draft.

Nick Davis, who kicked five goals last week, kicked eight playing at full forward while Ryan Brabazon and Matthew O’Dwyer ran the midfield. 2006 Draftees Daniel Currie and Jesse White were also good for the Swans with Currie controlling the ruck and White at fullback.

The Swans trailed at quarter time by seventeen points after only kicking two goals, both to Davis, while Belconnen kicked five. By half time Belconnen had increased the margin to 21 points although Davis kicked two more goals for the Swans and Matthew Laidlaw, in his first game for the season, and Mitch Frail also goaled.

The Swans held Belconnen to just two goals in the third term and after a goal from Dean Terlich and another three from Davis they had reduced the deficit to just nine points.

Belconnen opened the final quarter with two goals before Aaron Bruce added two to the Swans score. For the rest of the quarter the Swans only allowed Belconnen to kick two more goals while they piled on another five. Davis kicked two and Bottin-Noonan, Murphy, Laidlaw and Jones also goaled.

Swans General Manager of Football, Andrew Ireland, said that the win was possibly their best over the last three years, considering the Swans fielded such a young side.

The Swans next game is against Ainslie who are currently fifth on the ladder, sitting just below the Swans, at Ainslie Oval on Sunday April 20 at 2pm.
