GREATER Western Sydney recruit Brett Deledio hopes to be fit for round one but concedes he is no certainty after suffering a calf strain earlier this month.
Deledio, 29, did not feature in the Giants' opening JLT Community Series clash but told Fox Sports on Monday he aimed to represent his new club in the season opener against Adelaide on Sunday, March 26.
"That's the plan. I've been training since halfway through October, trying to get myself nice and fit," Deledio said.
"I'm always planning to play as many games as I can each year but unfortunately I've had this hiccup.
"I'll be pushing to play round one. It's more up to Leon (Cameron) and his coaching staff as to whether they see me fit."
Soft tissue injuries last year limited him to 11 matches for the season.
His aim was to take part in his side's final pre-season match against North Melbourne on Friday, March 10.
"The calf's going well. I've made a fair bit of progress. It's been very slow and steady. I've had a few issues and they've wanted to take it easy and get it right," he said.
"I'm still pushing to try and play at least a half in JLT3 but if I don't, that's not the end of the world. I've got plenty of time."
